1. Revise!

2. Choose either your MGPN, your FA, or your TiC essay for Wednesday’s Peer Review Potluck. Printout a fresh copy of the latest version of this essay. It would be most useful to choose one that you have done some recent revision work on, as you will be able to get some feedback from a classmate.

3. Print and fill out the Peer Review Potluck Template (under Class Documents). Choose five specific, well-directed questions to ask of your reviewer that will help you revise your chosen text.

4. If you haven’t yet, please fill out the technology survey. The link is in the last blog post.

Homework for Wednesday, November 11

1. Choose your final stakeholders and fill out the  SRP Plan on p. 69-70.

2. Research your issue thoroughly.
3. SW9: Research Process. In 400-500 words, tell me about the research you have already done for this paper. Things to write about:
- Where and how did you start looking up information on your issue once you had decided on the topic?
- How did you go about finding background information to create your stakeholders? Talk about each stakeholder, and how you are using information you found during research to back up their positions.
- Did you talk to anyone who gave you more information or ideas about the treatment of your issue?
- What kinds of positions of people did you come across in your research so far that you didn’t know of (or think of) when you first picked your topic?
-What further plans for research do you have for this paper? What are you still planning to find out?

4. Type up and bring a rough draft of one of your stakeholder sections. This should be 2-3 pages long as already part of your complete rough draft.

No class on Monday. Class on Wednesday will be in the regular classroom.

Homework for Friday, November 6

1. Read “On Collaboration” (p. 98-99). As you are in the process of deciding whether you want to write this essay collaboratively, think about how this can be useful to your growth as a writer.

2. Read “Guantanamo Bay Prison Facility” (p. 283-297). This is a good example of a narrow and well-defined topic. Notice how the student’s personal opinion comes through in the preface, but not as much in the actual essay. Also notice the very extensive and professional Works Cited page.

3. Choose your issue and start developing your stakeholders. Fill out at least two of the stakeholder profiles on p. 75-76.

Remember: Don’t choose one stakeholder you agree with and three stakeholders with “ridiculous” arguments. Your paper will be most successful of all four stakeholders are equally well fleshed out.

Class on Friday will be in the regular classroom.

Homework for Wednesday, November 4

1. Read SRP Assignment Sheet (on class blog). You may want to print it and highlight all important information, to help you remember it while working on the project).

2. Read p. 65 and 67 in the textbook. These pages will be very helpful for coming up with a good issue to write about and for narrowing it down sufficiently.

3. Continue thinking about possible issues and researching them on CQ Researcher (p. 71 in the textbook explains CQ Researcher if you need a refresher).

4. Settle on two possible issues, and write a short description of them (just a sentence or two). We will be doing a go-around of topics in class, so please be prepared. While choosing an issue, always keep in mind that you will have to be able to choose four different stakeholders for it; the four of them should represent different opinions and perspectives.

Class on Wednesday will be in the regular classroom.
